Associated Press
WASHINGTON —
Nineteen demonstrators were arrested Monday outside the South African Embassy in the ongoing protest against that nation’s apartheid policy of racial separation.
Police spokeswoman Gloria Vessels said most of those arrested were clergymen from around the country.
All were charged with demonstrating within 500 feet of an embassy, a misdemeanor. The arrests brought to 350 the number taken into custody at the embassy in northwest Washington since demonstrations began on Nov. 21.
