Nuns Cited at Federal Building
Chanting “No bombs, no war, U.S. out of El Salvador,” 18 Roman Catholic nuns were cited this morning for blocking an entrance to the federal building in downtown Los Angeles. The sisters, who said they were protesting the U.S. government’s policies in Central America, were fined $50 each.
The nuns held lists of dead and missing citizens who they said had been deported as they lined up in front of a Temple Street entrance used by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service. “We are here because we want to protect these deportees,” one nun said. The sisters had marched to the building from the downtown train station.
