Sunday Gambling Ban OKd by Florida Court

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. —
The Florida Supreme Court on Thursday upheld a state law that prohibits Sunday gambling, saying the public should spend the day of rest engaged in “more healthy recreational pursuits.”
Race tracks, which fought the law, contended the ban was unconstitutional. But the court, in a 7-0 ruling, noted that the ban was not instituted for religious reasons but rather serves “legitimate state purposes which promote the public health, safety, morals and general welfare of the citizens of the state of Florida.”
