Marcia Haydee, prima ballerina and artistic director of the Stuttgart Ballet, will replace Jorge Donn in two performances of Maurice Bejart’s “Bolero” when Bejart’s Ballet of the 20th Century appears in Royce Hall, UCLA, Feb. 12-16, The Times has learned.

Originally, ICM Artists Ltd., American agents for the Ballet of the 20th Century, had assured the UCLA Center for the Arts that Donn (a 20-year veteran of the Bejart company) would dance all three “Bolero” performances locally.

However, in Ottawa, the first stop on the current North American tour, ICM and UCLA learned that Donn would be in Japan during the five-night UCLA engagement. Subsequent negotiations led to Haydee being brought in as a guest for the Los Angeles dates--and for Donn to dance the opening night (Feb. 12) performance only.

Haydee last appeared in here in December, 1980 (with the Stuttgart Ballet), and in recent years has danced for Bejart in such ballets as “The Divine,” “Isadora” and “Wien, Wien, nur du Allein.” A spokesman for ICM said that she previously danced “Bolero”--a work that exists in three versions for different combinations of male or female soloist and corps--with the Stuttgart Ballet.

The UCLA performances reportedly will mark Haydee’s debut in this ballet with Bejart’s company and her first performances of it in North America.

The newly revised schedule for the Ballet of the 20th Century at UCLA is as follows:

Feb. 12: “Eros Thanatos” (a full-evening compendium of excerpts from 16 Bejart works, plus the complete “Bolero”) with Donn.

Feb. 13: Mixed bill of Bejart works (“Seven Greek Dances,” “Concerto in Re,” “The Rite of Spring”).

Feb. 14: “Eros Thanatos” with Haydee.

Feb. 15: Mixed bill.

Feb. 16: “Eros Thanatos” with Haydee. This performance is sold out.

The Ballet of the 20th Century last appeared in Southern California in December, 1975.
