School District Receives Writing Program Grant
Irvine Unified School District has received a $14,935 grant to develop a writing program that uses the visual arts in both live and cable television instruction.
Instructors will work both in the classroom and via cable television tele-conference, and students will be able to converse via the system with artists in residence at Newport Harbor Art Museum.
The project, called “Writing Through the Visual Arts,” will begin at an estimated eight schools and 16 classrooms in grades four through six. By June, 1986, an estimated 400 students will participate in about 10 combined visual arts and writing workshops.
The money for the project was donated by several corporations and granted through the California Educational Initiatives Fund, which promotes the programs to improve public education, a school district statement said.
