Vatican Ultimatum to Nicaraguan Reported
From the Washington Post
The Vatican has told Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Miguel D’Escoto that he must resign his post in the government within 15 days or his priestly functions will be formally suspended, church officials said.
A spokesman for D’Escoto’s Roman Catholic Maryknoll order in Ossining, N.Y., said Saturday that the Vatican ultimatum was delivered to D’Escoto last Wednesday.
The spokesman said a suspension of the priestly functions would not affect D’Escoto’s membership in the U.S.-based order.
