Pickens will meet with a pension-fund group.

The newly formed group of 22 pension funds--including several from California--that calls itself the Council of Institutional Investors had sought a meeting with Phillips Petroleum and Mesa Petroleum Chairman T. Boone Pickens. The group wants to discuss its concerns over a pact that Pickens and Phillips negotiated recently to end a takeover attempt of Phillips. Noting that such a meeting “is the type of thing that Mr. Pickens thinks is important,” a Mesa spokesman said that Pickens and the group will meet Feb. 14 in New York. Phillips said it also is trying to arrange a meeting with the group but has not yet set a date.
