EECO Inc., a Santa Ana manufacturer of computer systems and switch products, reported its fourth-quarter net income declined 46% from the year-ago quarter, and 1984 fiscal year earnings increased 9% from the year before.

For the 1984 fourth quarter, EECO posted profits of $345,000, down from earnings of $643,000 in the year-ago period. However, the 1983 figures include a one-time gain of $947,000 before taxes from the sale of EECO’s peripheral computer products line.

In the fiscal year, the company earned $1.2 million, up from $1.1 million in fiscal 1983. The 1984 profits included a $972,000 tax credit; 1983 income included a gain of $1.7 million from the sale of the company’s electronic packaging and peripheral product lines.

For the fourth quarter, ended Dec. 31, revenues surged to $12.5 million, a 41% increase from the $8.9 million posted in the like period a year ago.

Revenues in 1984 rose to $46.4 million, a 32% increase from $35.3 million in 1983.

The company attributed its relatively flat earnings to continued heavy development and start-up costs for its line video products. Also, EECO manufacturing facilities encountered problems in adjusting to the unexpected jump in demand.
