Cries from angry French-speaking viewers have brought the return of a French-Canadian television station to Maine’s capital.

State Cable Television Co. earlier this month replaced CKSH-TV from Sherbrooke, Quebec, with the Christian Broadcasting Network on its cable offerings.

Civic groups from the large French-speaking community of Augusta wrote letters of protest, and one lawmaker threatened to introduce a bill to expand regulatory control of cable companies.

Albert Meyer, State Cable’s president, told his company’s 14,000 subscribers to stay tuned. CKSH would be back in about 10 days, he said.
