Sex Suit Is Settled for $70,000
A Glendale police sergeant, who was found not guilty last November of sexually molesting three teen-age boys, has reached a settlement with the city that includes a $70,000 cash award and reinstatement to his job.
In exchange, Mike Hailey, 35, has agreed to drop a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against the City of Glendale and will resign from the police force to collect his retirement contribution, Assistant City Atty. Scott Howard said Wednesday.
The 12-year police veteran was arrested last April after a police internal investigation and charged with sexually molesting three teen-age boys who knew him through his work at the local YMCA.
Los Angeles Superior Court jurors, saying they doubted the credibility of the alleged victims and expressing skepticism about the motives of police administrators, found Hailey not guilty. Hailey was a vocal opponent of many police policies and wrote critical editorials in the Glendale Police Officers Assn. newsletter.
