2nd Child in Ocean Suicide Attempt Dies
The second of two children whom a despondent mother attempted to drown in the ocean off Santa Monica has died, Santa Monica police reported.
Six-month-old Yuri Kimura was pronounced dead at UCLA Medical Center four days after her 4-year-old brother, Kuzutako Kimura, perished.
The mother of the two children, Fumiko Kimura, 32, of Tarzana remained in good condition at County-USC Medical Center. She reportedly was depressed over her marital problems and her homesickness for Japan when she waded into the ocean and tried to drown herself and her two children.
Her husband has been released from St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica where he reportedly underwent psychiatric examination after he learned of the drownings, Santa Monica police Sgt. Russ Martin said.
