Schroeder Experiencing Fevers

Artificial heart recipient William Schroeder has been experiencing flashes of fever that have resulted in his being taken off some medication, Humana Hospital Audubon officials reported today.

A spokesman said Schroeder’s body temperature began to fluctuate between normal (98.6) and 102 degrees late last week. His laboratory tests showed no evidence that an infection was causing the rise and fall in body temperature, so doctors have eliminated some medications to relieve the condition. Schroeder received his artificial heart Nov. 25.
