ART IMITATES LIFE IN CHILD SEX CASE
An episode of the television program “Webster” prompted a 5-year-old girl to tell her parents she had been sexually molested earlier in the day, leading to the arrest of a suspect, police said.
“It was a learning experience for her,” Police Chief Bruce A. McLaren said. “It was something that may not have been reported before because the child did not understand what isn’t right.”
Robert A. Lincoln, 39, of Adams, was arrested last week on charges of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, McLaren said. Lincoln pleaded innocent in District Court and was held on $2,500 bail.
McLaren said the girl had watched the Jan. 25 episode of ABC’s “Webster,” in which a young schoolboy encountered a teacher trying to touch a female classmate.
“It was coincidental that the alleged offense occurred that same day, earlier in the day, and she watched the show that night,” McLaren said. The girl’s parents called police after talking with the girl, he said.
