Young Bicyclist Fatally Injured by Hit-Run Driver
A Santa Ana bicyclist died early Tuesday after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver.
Rene Neuarez Chavez, 20, suffered massive head and internal injuries and died in Fountain Valley Community Hospital, according to police.
Chavez was northbound in the 1600 block of Raitt Street, in Santa Ana, shortly after midnight when he was hit by a white Camaro or Firebird, said Police Lt. Terry Dalkin. Witnesses said Chavez was turning left about 100 yards south of Edinger Avenue when he was hit, and the car sped off immediately.
“He was making a turning movement, but it would not appear that he pulled in front of the vehicle,” said Dalkin.
