WASHINGTON —
The Laotian government will allow excavation of the site where 13 Americans are presumed dead from the downing of a U.S. military plane during the Vietnam War, the State Department announced today.
The department said the joint U.S.-Laotian excavation is now set for Feb. 10-21 at the site in the south Laotian jungle where the C-130 transport plane crashed in 1972. “The United States very much appreciates this humanitarian gesture by the Lao government,” the department said in a statement.
