First National Bank of Boston was fined $500,000.
The bank was fined after pleading guilty to a federal charge of failure to file currency reports with the Internal Revenue Service on more than $1 billion in cash transactions with foreign banks between 1980 and 1984. U.S. District Judge David Mazzone accepted the plea and ordered the bank, New England’s largest, to pay the fine by Monday.
