Nestande’s Son Gets Longer Term
The 24-year-old son of Orange County Supervisor Bruce Nestande was ordered Thursday to serve an additional 60 days in prison for a probation violation stemming from his arrest on suspicion of drunk driving last month.
Superior Judge Francisco P. Briseno ordered Barry Ken Nestande to serve the new 60-day sentence after completion of the 60-day sentence Nestande began serving on Jan. 28.
Nestande’s troubles with the law resulted from his plea of no contest to a charge of assault in an October, 1981, fraternity brawl at Cal State Fullerton. He was put on probation for three years.
He violated probation by being arrested Jan. 7, 1984, in Newport Beach on suspicion of public drunkenness, which led Superior Court Judge James L. Smith to impose the first 60-day sentence if Nestande failed to complete an alcohol rehabilitation program.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Frank Carroll said Nestande violated probation again when he was arrested Jan. 20 on the Costa Mesa Freeway, north of Warner Avenue, on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. On Feb. 1, he pleaded guilty to violating probation, Carroll said.
