The Region : Deputy’s Killer Convicted
Norwalk Superior Court jurors found Jack D. Jeffries, 43, of Bell guilty of second-degree murder in the slaying last Sept. 5 of off-duty Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy David Lance Holguin, 24. The Firestone Station officer was shot to death shortly after 3 a.m. when he stopped in Bell on his way home to Pomona to determine why a 3-year-old boy was wandering around a parking lot. The child’s father was arrested initially, but murder charges were dropped and Jeffries subsequently surrendered. A motive was never established. He will be sentenced by Superior Court Judge Robert Higa on March 6.
