The Wolf Foundation announced it will award a $100,000 prize to Spanish sculptor Eduardo Chillida.

Chillida, a 60-year-old Basque artist from San Sebastian in northern Spain, was cited as “one of the major sculptors of our time.”

Since 1981, the Wolf Foundation has awarded annual prizes in six categories: the arts, physics, chemistry, medicine, mathematics and agriculture.

The foundation was established by Ricardo Wolf, a chemist and diplomat, who was the Cuban ambassador to Israel until Cuba severed relations with the Jewish state in 1967. Wolf then made his home here until his death in 1981.
