National Education Corp. Posts 8% Rise for Quarter

National Education Corp., the Newport Beach vocational and technical training firm, said Tuesday that its fiscal 1984 earnings rose 33% as fourth-quarter profits increased 8% from the year-ago period.

National Education earned a record $11.99 million in 1984, up from $9 million in 1983. The company’s fourth-quarter earnings increased to $3.5 million from the $3.24 million reported for the same period in 1983.

For all of 1984, National Education said its revenues were $173.9 million, up 9% from $158.5 million the year before. Fourth-quarter revenues were $47.3 million, up almost 13% from $41.9 million in the year-ago quarter.

The company said this marks the 10h consecutive year that earnings exceeded those of the previous year.

The “driving force” behind the company’s financial success in 1984 was its educational book publishing, industrial training and independent study courses, according to Jack Polly, National Education vice president.
