Digest : Local News in Brief : Asbestos Found at 4 Camarillo Schools
Asbestos has been found at four elementary schools in Camarillo, but students and district employees have had little contact with the substance, a district official said.
Asbestos, which has been linked to cancer, was found at four Pleasant Valley School District campuses--Camarillo Heights, Las Posas, Monte Vista and Los Primeros. The material was found in the insulation on pipes, hot water tanks and heater ducts, as well as in ceiling material.
An inspection of the district’s 12 schools was conducted almost two years ago under a federally required inspection program, but the findings were not brought to the Board of Education until recently because of a lack of money to pay for the removal, said Robert Humphrey, district operations supervisor.
