Stanford University trustees agreed to locate the proposed Ronald Reagan presidential library on a six-acre site on the edge of the campus. Construction is tentatively set to begin sometime in 1987, a university spokesman said. The trustees studied about 20 sites, some of which drew opposition from neighborhood groups fearing increased traffic and noise. If the President approves the site, as expected, the next step will be creation of a foundation to finance the $65-million project. The library proposal drew initial opposition from university faculty and staff when Reagan Administration aides suggested that it include a public affairs center operated by the Hoover Institution, a conservative think tank affiliated with Stanford. Reagan aides later withdrew that proposal, suggesting that the library and its small museum be separate.
