Orange : City Manager Appoints Deputy Police Chief

Share

Wayne V. Streed was chosen deputy chief of police Wednesday by City Manager J. William Little.

The new deputy will work with Chief Norm Traub until the chief’s retirement early this summer. It is anticipated that Streed will be appointed to succeed Traub at that time, Little said.

Streed was one of five Orange police administrators to compete for the deputy chief’s job.

Praising all of the candidates, Little said the five “competed well in a rigorous testing and interview process . . . and all merited careful consideration.” Because of the quality of the contenders, Little said, the choice was difficult for him and the City Council.

Streed, 51, has 25 years of police experience. He previously served as captain of the Police Department’s investigative services division. Before coming to Orange in 1963, Streed was an officer with the San Ana and Omaha police departments.

The new deputy chief is married and holds a bachelor’s degree in public management from Redlands University. He also has been vice president of the Orange County Peace Officers Assn.

Streed will receive about $50,000 annually.
