Fumes Empty Hospital

LONDON —
Fumes escaping from the basement of London’s oldest hospital, 860-year-old St. Bartholomew’s, forced the evacuation of 55 patients and staff members, a hospital statement said Wednesday. The hospital said sulfur dioxide gas was created Tuesday night by a chemical reaction caused by a drainage leak.
