United Way Inc. of Los Angeles collected a record $77.1 million in pledges, 10% above last year’s $70 million, James F. Dickason, 1984-85 campaign chairman, announced. The increase, more than double the rate of inflation, is expected to bring significant increases in allocations to more than 300 health and human service agencies. Atlantic Richfield and Bank of America gave the largest gifts--$1.2 million each. More than $60 million is expected to be distributed to United Way’s 14 partners and approximately 300 member agencies, a spokesman said. The remainder goes to campaign and other costs, gifts designated to other United Ways and to 2,600 non-United Way charities.
