The council also approved the purchase of property insurance from Appalachian and R.L.I. Insurance companies for an annual premium of $49,377.
The staff recommended that the city not buy collision insurance for its 160 vehicles because, at $60,000, it is too expensive. The staff will look into self-insurance or setting up a replacement fund for damaged or destroyed vehicles.
