Bullets Top Killer in Philippine State

MANILA —
Bullets killed more people than disease last year in the northern Philippine province of Kalinga Apayao, provincial health officials reported Friday.
According to the Philippine News Agency, they found that about 30% of those who died were killed by gunshots. Pneumonia, the main killer in 1983, took second place.
The agency said health department statistics did not show whether the deaths were “due to the presence of many military men in the province or to tribal wars and government anti-criminality operations.”
