Members of the Greater Riverside Chambers of Commerce voted 28 to 1 to oppose a proposed city law that would regulate smoking in the workplace and restaurants. The measure is being prepared for presentation to the City Council next month. The law would force private businesses to adopt smoking policies and require restaurants to set aside half their seating area for nonsmokers. If it is approved, Riverside would become the 29th California city to adopt smoking regulations since Los Altos did so in 1979.
