Grateful Dead’s legendary guitarist, Jerry Garcia, charged with possession of narcotics, has asked for permission to enter a drug therapy program, authorities said. Garcia, 42, made the request of a San Francisco Municipal Court judge. If accepted into the Adult Probation Department program, Garcia could avoid standing trial and his arrest record would be sealed, authorities said. Garcia was arrested last month in Golden Gate Park and charged with possessing 1.2 grams of heroin and 1.1 grams of cocaine. Garcia did not enter a plea during the court appearance.
