Local News in Brief : Education Fraternity Holds Essay Contest

Savings bonds will be awarded to winners of a Valleywide student essay contest sponsored by the Phi Delta Kappa professional education fraternity.

Public school children in grades 3 to 12 are eligible, said Bob Fishman, vice president of the fraternity’s Valley chapter. The contest topic is “What lesson from American history do you consider to be the most important for United States citizens to remember today, and why?”

Entries should be 500 words or less and should be typed or printed, he said. Each page must have the entrant’s name, grade and school. The deadline for entries is Friday .

Winners will receive $50 savings bonds in three categories--elementary, junior high and high school. Entries should be sent to the fraternity at 17100 Knapp St., Northridge 91325, Fishman said.
