Former Oklahoma Baptist minister Van Roosevelt Solomon, 41, was put to death in Georgia's electric chair early today for the torture-murder of a convenience store manager during a 1979 holdup. Solomon was taken to the death chamber in Jackson after a final meal of fruit and chocolate ice cream. Hours earlier, the U.S. Supreme Court and Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles refused his pleas for a stay and clemency.
