U.S. and Soviet officials concluded more than 10 hours of talks in Vienna on the Middle East and other regional issues, but there was no immediate information on their outcome. Richard W. Murphy, assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern and South Asia affairs, is expected to return to Washington today. U.S. officials have attempted to play down the importance of the talks, which constitute the first direct contact between the superpowers on Mideast issues since 1977.
