Is Trust Gone?

Share

In October, 1984, Mr. Robert Bell trusted a doctor and told him his story. The doctor acted in accordance with the law and reported his findings to the San Diego County Sheriff. Within the week, Escondido’s Times-Advocate, the San Diego Union and the Los Angeles Times published Mr. Bell’s confidential statements to his doctor.

What are we to tell one another at this point about trust and confidentiality, the cornerstones of psychotherapy? Can we believe and trust these values in the future?
