Actor Dan Haggerty said the undercover police officers to whom he allegedly sold cocaine showed an unusual interest in drugs and eventually annoyed him by continually referring to the drug. Haggerty also said Officers Raymond Martin and Barbara Eggars posed as a couple who needed cocaine to maintain a sexual relationship or conduct business. Haggerty, on trial in Los Angeles Superior Court on charges that he furnished the pair with a little more than half an ounce of cocaine during a six-month friendship, also testified that he does not currently use the drug because abuse of it earlier threatened his career. “It hadn’t been good for my career or for me,” he said. “I don’t want to be dealing with coke. I don’t want it around,” he said he told Martin. Haggerty, 41, said that he regarded the baby his wife Samantha was carrying as a “fresh start” and he wanted to be free of drugs and start a new life.
