About 40 organizations representing labor, business, the elderly, hospitals, doctors and nurses said Saturday that they would lobby Congress to oppose the Administration’s proposed Medicare and Medicaid cuts.

The organizations, including the American Assn. of Retired Persons, the American Dental Assn., the American Hospital Assn., the American Medical Assn. and the American Nurses Assn., said in a joint statement that they would urge Congress to “work to develop a federal budget that does not extract a disproportionate sacrifice from the nation’s elderly and poor.”
