Pagel Sets 2nd-Best U.S. Shotput Mark

Ramona Pagel, a former San Diego State standout and 1984 Olympian, recorded the second-best shotput mark ever by an American woman to win the event in the Bud Light Invitational Track Meet Saturday at SDSU.

In rainy and windy conditions, Pagel put the shot 61 feet 5 1/2 inches. Bonnie Dasse was second with 61-2 1/2, the third-best mark by an American woman. Maren Seidler set the top U.S. mark of 62-7 3/4 in 1979.

In the men’s javelin, one-time Palomar College student and former world record-holder Tom Petranoff, won the competition with a throw of 272-7. Petranoff beat his closest rival by 42 feet.

Darwin Cook of USC won the 100-meter dash in 10.34 seconds.
