Reagan Team Gets Deal on Cars
A presidential advance team, including Michael K. Deaver, arranged through diplomatic personnel to purchase nine BMWs at discounts while in West Germany last week, Newsweek magazine reported in this week’s edition.
The purpose of the trip was to prepare for President Reagan’s four-country visit in May.
The magazine, citing diplomatic sources, reported that the advance team was in Munich when “they arranged through embassy personnel to buy nine BMW automobiles, using diplomatic passports to get discounts of about 25%.”
Deaver, President Reagan’s deputy chief of staff who is leaving the White House soon, told the magazine that the discounts are a traditional perquisite for those holding such passports.
