This city will use the $380,000 it expects in federal Community Development Block Grant funds for loans to help residents fix their homes and for street improvements, according to administrative analyst John Hjelm Jr.

Hjelm said about $203,000 will pay for work on Strosier Avenue and Fern and Klingerman streets. Another $135,000 is allocated for loans at 3.5% interest to low-income residents rehabilitating owner-occupied single-family dwellings.

The city’s emergency rehabilitation program, which supplies grants to low-income senior citizens and handicapped people for residential repairs, will receive $10,000, and the remaining $32,000 will cover administrative costs, Hjelm said.
