East County
The California Transportation Commission has approved documents for a $1.6-million project to improve California Highway 67 in East San Diego County. The safety improvement project will include curve realignment and shoulder widening for a 1.3-mile stretch of the highway, about six miles south of Ramona. Caltrans will not begin work on the project for more than a year. However, workers are currently improving a 2.4-mile section of Highway 67 north of Lakeside as part of a comprehensive renovation of the narrow mountain road. Caltrans officials say such improvements have reduced accidents on the highway by 75%.
