The Episcopal Church of the Messiah in Santa Ana has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the California State Office of Historic Preservation. The church will now be included on the nation’s official list of cultural resources.
The church, at 614 N. Bush St., was built in 1887 and is the oldest assembly hall in Santa Ana.
The Rev. Canon Oliver B. Garver Jr. was recently elected suffragan bishop by a special convention of the Diocese of Los Angeles (Episcopal). Garver will preach, celebrate the Eucharist and lead the adult forum from 8 to 10 a.m. Sunday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 2400 N. Canal St., Orange.
Garver has been a major force in molding California’s refugee resettlement policy as chairman of the Governor’s Task Force on Refugee Affairs.
