An obscure guerrilla group claimed responsibility for the assassination of Salvadoran army Col. Ricardo Cienfuegos. Unidentified callers to a San Salvador radio station said that members of the Clara Elizabeth Ramirez Brigade were responsible for killing Cienfuegos, the army’s chief spokesman. The brigade has claimed responsibility for a number of terrorist acts, including assassinations, and also claims ties to the Popular Liberation Forces, one of five guerrilla groups fighting the U.S.-backed Salvadoran government.
