Sports-Minded Club Skips Formalities

Share

Many singles clubs favor a high degree of structure, with regularly scheduled meetings, annual membership dues and strict bylaws. But Athletic Singles is, according to spokesman Bob Brodie, “not a formal, organized group with an official membership or a charter or rules or any of that.”

The club’s name has the advantage of being self-explanatory: Athletic Singles’ primary activities are tennis, volleyball and bicycling. The most popular (and structured) of those are the tennis games, which are played at 7 p.m. every Monday and Thursday at the Dana Hills Tennis Club, at 32646 Street of the Golden Lantern, Dana Point. The $3.50 cost covers tennis balls and three hours of court time. The volleyball games are usually played on Sunday afternoons, although the site “changes from week to week,” Brodie said.

Occasionally, Athletic Singles schedules non-athletic events such as picnics, parties and game nights. Most who participate in the group’s activities live in the area bounded by Dana Point and Lake Forest, although some come from as far as San Clemente and Cypress. For more information, call Brodie at 770-4013.
