A merger agreement between the International Typographical Union and the Graphic Communications International Union collapsed, the labor groups said today, giving the Teamsters a new opportunity to move into the printing industry.

The general board of the GCIU, meeting in Washington Wednesday, rejected merger with the ITU by a “majority vote--and it was decisive,” a GCIU spokesman said. Teamsters President Jackie Presser today called on the president of the ITU to now allow a vote on merger with the Teamsters.
