Final but unofficial figures showed that Santa Barbara residents voted nearly 3 to 1 in favor of former actor Fess Parker’s proposed convention center and hotel, despite the longstanding opposition of environmentalists. The count was 16,594 to 6,359, or about 72% to 27%. The plan by Parker and Red Lion Inns calls for a 360-room hotel and a 1,000-person convention hall on 23 beachfront acres owned by the one-time portrayer of Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone. He has agreed to dedicate five acres of adjacent property for parkland.
