College Tennis : Irvine Women Sweep Doubles to Beat New Mexico

The UC Irvine women’s tennis team swept all three doubles matches to defeat New Mexico, 6-3, Wednesday in nonconference action at UCI.

The Anteaters (12-11) split six singles matches. No. 1 player Stephanie Rhorer defeated Leeanne Palmisano, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3, No. 2 Lola Trenwith beat Mari Forbef, 6-3, 6-2, and. No. 6 Kim Giorganella defeated Ute Schroff, 6-0, 6-2. UCI didn’t lose a set in doubles.

The Anteaters will play host to Utah on Friday.

In nonconference men’s action:

Cal State Long Beach 8, Chapman 1--The 49ers won five of six singles matches and swept three doubles matches on their way to the win at Long Beach. The Panthers’ only winner was No. 1 singles player Troy Turnbull, who defeated Steve Cluse, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Chapman drops to 8-6.
