Canada Rejects Bid to Move Embassy in Israel

OTTAWA —
Israeli Foreign Minister Yitzhak Shamir on Friday asked Canada to move its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, but Prime Minister Brian Mulroney refused.
After a meeting with Mulroney, Shamir said the Canadian leader was now “aware of our position and he will consider it.”
Mulroney, who initially declined to comment, told reporters later that Shamir must have misunderstood him.
