Ski Resort Explosion Kills One, Injures Five
An explosion flattened part of a three-story hotel-restaurant at this mountain ski resort Friday, killing one person, injuring five and trapping a man and a 12-year-old girl in the rubble, authorities said.
The girl’s hand was pinned under a concrete block. Her mother, who was one of five persons hospitalized with injuries, gave permission for doctors to amputate her daughter’s hand if necessary to save her life, said Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy Nathan Ridge.
“If it’s life and death, they will,” he said.
The cause of the explosion was not immediately known.
