The 23-year-old son of Massachusetts Sen. Edward M. Kennedy is considering a bid for the congressional seat once held by his late uncle, John F. Kennedy, and soon to be relinquished by House Speaker Thomas P. (Tip) O’Neill Jr., it was reported Saturday.

The Boston Globe said Edward M. Kennedy Jr., a recent graduate of Wesleyan University in Connecticut and a spokesman for the physically disabled, is planning to move to the state’s 8th Congressional District from his father’s Virginia home.

The newspaper said members of the family’s inner circle have notified other candidates and politicians about the plans.
