A UC Irvine computer science professor has received a 1985 Presidential Young Investigator award for his research in computer programming.

Richard N. Taylor, assistant professor of information and computer science, is one of 200 scientists nationwide who will receive $25,000 a year for up to five years as part of the National Science Foundation grant program, said Joel Don, a UCI spokesman.

Taylor, an Irvine resident, is involved in researching software development tools, analysis and testing programs and concurrent processes. He also is one of the principal investigators in the programming environment project at UC Irvine, Don said.

“The National Science Foundation award, on behalf of President Ronald Reagan, recognizes Taylor’s outstanding research and teaching as well as his potential for strengthening the nation’s research programs in science and engineering,” Don said.

More than 1,000 nominees nationwide competed for the awards, which are designed to help universities respond to the demand for scientists and engineers for academic and industrial research.
