Reagan Voters

5Our governor’s recent statement (Times, Feb. 27) that the people voted for Ronald Reagan because he would reduce the deficit by cutting expenditures and not raising taxes causes one to wonder whether the old boy’s thinking has flipped.
Methinks that most voters chose Reagan only because he makes the more impressive figurehead for our country--much like the Queen of England.
They expect Congress to exercise judgment more compatible with their own views: To cut the deficit by reducing expenditures including those for defense, to raise taxes if needed, to control Social Security if necessary. Belief that the deficit can be effectively treated if we’d only spend less is plain hogwash!
Oh yes, although I’m a Republican, the “Duke” just lost another vote.
